Legendary (formally known as Legendary Pictures) is a global entertainment company with a passion for transportive storytelling across film, television, digital media, virtual reality and comic books.

While studying the business of film and television at UCLA in the summer of 2015, I interned for Legendary’s marketing department, where I was exposed to social-driven research analytics and high-budget marketing campaigns for blockbuster movies.

Legendary Entertainment @ San Diego Comic-Con

Legendary was unveiling three major motion pictures at SDCC: Warcraft (2016), Crimson Peak (2015), and Krampus (2015). To better understand their market and audience, we - team of interns - created a presentation that illustrated common word-trends and hashtags associated with the movies.

Gauging Social Media presence

Legendary Entertainment wants to have a strong social media presence at all times. Though during SDCC, they need to capitalize on all the free publicity. A few things we found by studying their social media was that people were more excited for Crimson Peak, a highly anticipated Guillermo Del Toro film. Meanwhile Warcraft sparked a controversy, as some frequented players of the game found that the characters in the movie were being misrepresented. However, fans were very impressed with Warcraft's graphics.

Through my internship, I learned that marketing is vital for movie success. How you market towards your audience and how you present the film to your audience are driving factors behind box office success.
